چکیده

Optical characterization of DNA-wrapped CoMoCAT carbon nanotube hybrids (DNA–CNT) and semiconductor-enriched DNA–CNT was carried out using resonant Raman spectroscopy (RRS) and photoluminescence (PL) experiments. The values of radial breathing modes frequency xRBM were found to be relatively insensitive to the type of wrapping agents surrounding the nanotube. The values of xRBM and the first and second resonant interband transitions, E11 and E22, for a particular (n,m) tube for all sample types in RRS and PL measurements are found to correspond to the values obtained for SDS-dispersed nanotubes measured with PL, but with a shift in Eii ranging from 10 to 80 meV. The DNA-wrapping has shown not only to provide good isolation to the individual nanotube in a bundle, but the DNA wrapping mechanism for the CoMoCAT sample has also been shown to be diameter selective. 2004 Elsevier B.V. Characterization of DNA-Carbon Nanotube Hybrids by their van Hove Singularities

The optical dichroism which appears in the nanotube–DNA hybrid is studied within a phenomenological approach. Naturally non–chiral nanotubes may acquire a chiral optical response when wrapped by the DNA helix. The hybrids of the DNA and the metallic nanotubes are discussed in conjunction with the possible gap opening and the subsequent arising of a pair of van Hove singularities close to the Fe...

Theory of Electronic and Optical Properties of DNA-SWNT Hybrids

Single-wall nanotubes (SWNTs) are being studied for use as components in the next generation of electronic and optical devices, including transistors, photodetectors, and biological sensors [1], but to realize large scale production of these and other potential devices, methods must be developed to gain control over the material. This task is multifaceted. Firstly, as-synthesized carbon nanotub...

Scanning tunneling microscopy of DNA-wrapped carbon nanotubes.

We employ scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) to reveal the structure of DNA-carbon nanotube complexes with unprecedented spatial resolution and compare our experimental results to molecular dynamics simulations. STM images show strands of DNA wrapping around (6,5) nanotubes at approximately 63 degrees angle with a coiling period of 3.3 nm, in agreement with the theoretical predictions. In addi...

Noncovalent functionalization of DNA-wrapped single-walled carbon nanotubes with platinum-based DNA cross-linkers.

A method for noncovalent functionalization of DNA-wrapped single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) using platinum-based DNA cross-linkers is investigated. In particular, cisplatin and potassium tetrachloroplatinate are shown to bind to DNA that encapsulates SWNTs in aqueous solution. The bound platinum salt can then be reduced to decorate the DNA-encapsulated SWNTs with platinum nanoparticles. Th...

A novel label-free cocaine assay based on aptamer-wrapped single-walled carbon nanotubes

Objective(s): This paper describes a selective and sensitive biosensor based on the dissolution and aggregation of aptamer wrapped single-walled carbon nanotubes. We report on the direct detection of aptamer–cocaine interactions, namely between a DNA aptamer and cocaine molecules based on near-infrared absorption at λ807. Materials and Methods: First a DNA aptamer recognizing cocaine was non-co...
